How to Offline Update Xbox One Console?
Here comes one question: is it possible to update Xbox One offline? The answer is YES.
You can use the Xbox One Offline System Update (OSU) process to do the job: you can download the OSU process on your Windows computer and then use it to update your Xbox One console.
Before offline update your Xbox One, you need to prepare these things:
- A Windows computer with an internet connection is enabled and an available USB port.
- A USB flash drive that has at least 6 GB of space and the drive should be formatted as NTFS.
Xbox One has different series like the original Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox One S, and Xbox One S, and more.
The way to offline update the original Xbox One is different from other editions. Thus, we will divide this part into 2 sections:
How to Offline Update Xbox One?
- How to offline update the original Xbox One console?
- How to offline update all other Xbox One consoles?
Situation 1: Offline Update the Original Xbox One Console
Step 1: Check whether you can enter the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter
- Unplug the network cable if you think there is something wrong with the network connection.
- Power off the console and then unplug the power cord to guarantee that the Xbox One console is completely powered off.
- Plug the power cord 30 seconds later.
- Press and hold the BIND and EJECT buttons, and then press the Xbox button. Hold the BIND and EJECT button for about 15 seconds.
- When you hear two power-up tones, you can release the BIND and EJECT buttons.
- When the console is power on, you can check whether it can access the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter. Here, if the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter is available, you can follow the steps mentioned in Situation 2 to offline update Xbox One.
However, if the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter is unavailable, you can continue step 2.
Step 2: Check the console OS version
You can go to System > Settings > System > Console info to check the OS version of the console.

- When the console restarts, the first update ends.

However, there is one more thing you need to know:
The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition does not have the EJECT button. You need to only hold the BIND button and press the Xbox button to access the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter.
Bottom Line

So my Son's Xbox One decided that it would throw an E203 xxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxx error today, much to his alarm.
Reading scare mongering stories led to a panic about returning the console, however digging a little bit deaper, we found a wealth of knowledge, coupled with my own firmware flashing experience, we were able to get things on the road.
Lets add some factors here - firstly, we had no idea what the last update on the console was, and no access to the system menu to find that information.
Microsoft offer an update troubleshooting page which allows you to use a wizard to find the best result for your issue:
Our steps:
- I am getting an error message or an error code
- I am getting an error code
- E203
Which told us to try the offline system update diagnostic tool:
Xbox One Offline Update Osu1
For this to work, you will need a USB drive (4gig or more) which is formatted to NTFS, I sacrificed my system restore USB.. ouch.

Now, the information on the page is pretty good - but we followed it to the letter, for each of the update files with no success.
So here's the approach that worked - I probably don't have to tell you this, but the steps worked for us, they may not work for you YMMV!

- Download all 4 image files (OSUDT1 / OSUDT2 / OSUDT3 / RESTORE FACTORY DEFAULTS)
- Extract OSUDT1 to USB.
- Place in console, hold wireless sync button, eject button and press the power button. It should make the 'Turned On' tone, keep the eject and sync button pressed until you hear that tone again
- Watch the update apply - or error message appear.
- If your console is alive, wait for updates and praise the sun gods.Otherwise: Quick format USB in your PC, turn off the console and unplug it from the mains.
- Extract the Factory Defaults image on to the USB
- Place in console, plug it back in, repeat the 3 fingered salute (step 3)
- Wait for the reboot, if it works, praise the moon gods and stop reading! Else continue.
- Quick format your USB
- Extract OSUDT2 to USB
- Place in console, hold wireless sync button, eject button and press the power button. It should make the 'Turned On' tone, keep the eject and sync button pressed until you hear that tone again
- Extract the Factory Defaults image on to the USB
- Place in console, plug it back in, repeat the 3 fingered salute (step 3)
- Wait for the reboot, if it works, praise the moon gods and stop reading! Else continue.
- Extract OSUDT3 to USB
- Place in console, hold wireless sync button, eject button and press the power button. It should make the 'Turned On' tone, keep the eject and sync button pressed until you hear that tone again
- Extract the Factory Defaults image on to the USB
- Place in console, plug it back in, repeat the 3 fingered salute (step 3)
- Wait for the reboot, if it works, praise the moon gods and stop reading! Else continue.
If you're still not working (and we weren't! We now had error 101) then go back to step 10 at this point! Suddenly, the console coughed, sneezed and jumped back to life!
